This weekend the best Level 9s & 10s will meet in the Cereal Capital of the world to battle it out to become the best of the best in Michigan. State Meet is the first stop of the Championship Season on the road to the 2017 Eastern & JO Nationals, which will both be hosted in Region 5!

This past weekend many Region 5 teams traveled to Nashville, Tennessee for the Nashville Nights Invitational hosted by Intrigue Athletics. The Invitational was hosted at the enormous downtown Music City Convention Center, which happens to be shaped like a guitar. There were 3 Level 10 sessions throughout the weekend, Region 5 Insider filmed the last session of Level 10 hosted in the yellow & white gyms. The atmosphere of this meet was quite different than what we normally experience here in Region 5. One of the main differences was presenting to the judges, it appeared that only the teams from Region 5 presented to the judges prior to the event. However, it was exciting to see some different teams, routines and of course leotards!!
Region 5 Insider only videoed the teams competing from Region 5. Those teams were: Perfection (OH), DeVeau’s School of Gymnastics (IN), Queen City (OH), Perfect Balance (OH), Branch Gymnastics (MI), Oakland Gymnastics (MI), and I-Power (IL) . My main focus was to showcase teams that we have not really seen this season.

Meet Videos
Tristan Brown, of Gedderts Twistars USA, hails from DeWitt, Michigan. Tristan has spent more of her life inside the gym than outside starting gymnastics at Twistars USA at the age of 3. Tristan is a first year Level 10, who has already made an impact in the sport of gymnastics winning the 2016 Level 9 AA title. This is Tristan’s last season as not only a JO gymnast at Twistars, but also Region 5. Lets get to know Tristan a little bit better as she heads into the final chapter of her JO Gymnastics Career.
How did you get into gymnastics? How old were you? My mom put me into
What is your favorite event? My favorite event is bars
What is your favorite part of gymnastics? My favorite part of gymnastics is getting to see my friends everyday and looking back at all the times I’ve struggled and came through them
What college do you plan on attending? I am undecided

meet to compete at is definitely Nationals
Biggest accomplishment in gymnastics so far? My biggest accomplishment is winning Level 9 Nationals in AA in 2016
Favorite skill to train and/or compete? I really like doing Tkatchevs!

Favorite Gymnastics Moment? My favorite Gymnastics moment was definitely after my floor routine at Level 9 Nationals in 2016. My coach, Brett Wargo, had
the happiest look on his face and then he told me that routine did it and that I won. It was truly the best feeling ever!
If you weren’t a gymnast, what sport would you do or try? If I wasn’t a Gymnast I would want to either do basketball or dance.
If you could live anywhere in the world where would you live? I would live in either England or Australia
If you could have lunch with anyone dead or alive who would it be and why? I would have lunch with Shawn Mendes because he is one of the nicest guys I know and he makes me happy listening to his music and has good meaning behind all of his songs. He is just so genuinely a great guy.
Tell me something interesting about yourself…. I was adopted when I was 2 years old.

Olympia Gymnastics senior Annie Maxim is a three time JO National qualifier. Annie is a leader on and off the competition floor always there to lend a word of encouragement or help guide in the right direction. She has taken great pride in representing Region 5 and is making the most of her senior year. Annie will be headed to Michigan State University on a full ride scholarship this fall.
