Greever and Gantner take 2nd, Kaminski vaults to Gold- 2023 DEV All Star Recap

Results: All Stars East

The 2023 DEV Nationals All Star session (first known as the Wild Card session in 2022) had a bit of different format from its inaugural year in 2022. This years competition was the level 10 version of the Easterns and Westerns for level 9.

The competition was divided into the East (Regions 5,6,7,8) on one side of the gym and the West (Regions 1,2,3,4). So, I guess the DEV Nationals banner sign symbolized the Mississippi River.

Region 5 fared pretty well in the competition with Phenoms Ainsley Greever taking 2nd all around with a 36.975 only .025 from first. Her highest score of the evening was a 9.625 for this very nice layout Yurchenko. Ainsley will be headed to Arizona in the fall.

Josie Moylan from Agility upgraded her bars dismount to a full out and scored a 6th best 9.45 and grabbed 4th in the all around with a 36.475. Josie is the alternate for our Senior F team here before heading to Cornell this fall.

Region 5 had an All Star east vault champion, who vault a big Yurchenko full and rocked the landing. Paige Kaminski for Gym America score a 9.75 to share the title.

Elizabeth Gantner closed her club career with a 2nd place 9.725 on bars. Elizabeth will be headed to Utah in the fall.

At last years nationals, the competition didn’t end the way Ashley Szymanski wanted tearing her achilles in warm-up on floor. Ashley wasn’t able to get back in the all around for her senior year but she made the most of her efforts especially on her best event. In my opinion, this is one of the best executed bar routines of this competition and she will be putting up big scores for Ball State next year. Check out her 4th place 9.65 bars routine.

Two floor routines that are always ones to watch proved to be the story in this All Star session. Zoie Pelfrey from Cincinnati repeated her 3rd place finish on floor from 2022 with a very nice 9.5 routine. Her performance quality is always top notch and that help her fair well in Central Michigan’s floor line-ups next year.

Olivia Giunta’s floor is always one of my favorites and maybe its because of her awesome whip 1/2 Rudi. She nailed that pass on her way to a 9.475 and 4th place on floor. She also took home 5th on vault. This is Olivia 2nd year competing in the all star session on both events.

Region 5 did have a top 5 finish on beam as well with Ava Jordan (AJ) from DeVeaus taking 4th with a 9.375. She has a very nice kick over front to back handspring series and a fun gainer dismount.

Some other region 5 performances to mention:

Chloe DeJoy, Perfection 7th on floor 9.375

Ava Downie, Michigan Elite 8th on beam 9.175

Delanie Kelly, Legacy Elite 10th on vault 9.6

Reilan Garvey, UGA 16th on vault 9.55

Gabrielle Riley, Crystal Lake 21st on vault 9.425

Emma Brookins, Olympia 16th on floor 9.175
