College Gymnastics is back and we are excited to bring you another season of the spine breaking coverage of our awesome Region 5 Alums. We highlight some of the new faces we are looking forward to seeing as well as some athletes we have yet to see compete in college. The Region 5 conference looks stronger then ever for this 2022 season and Region 5 Alum Olivia Karas is back with Karas Kickover take 2.

Training Thursday: The Super Tap- Bar Shaping | Gymnastics Tutorial

In this Training Thursday we focus on some tap swing shaping drills to help feel the hollow arch shape and the front giant drop shape. Once the tap is developed you can move that into the Super Tap to help bring your giants smoothly over the top and help with blind change consistency as well.

Flashback Film Strip: Region 5 Junior F and Senior F Bars from the 2021 DEV Nationals. Our new series is looking back on team performances for the past from our Region 5 Dream Team that stand out. The Senior F’s won their age group on bars with the 2nd highest 4 score total of the entire competition (38.775). The Junior F’s finished 2nd in their age group with a 38.525 (score is wrong in the video). Let’s look back at these outstanding bar routines.

Spotlight: Seniors of Flip Star | Interconnected Group

This spotlight looks at the 4 seniors at Flip Star Gymnastics in Illinois. We got to see them train in our most recent All Access workout but now get to know each of them better and their backstories. This group has been together since the beginning of pre-team and FlipStar owner Beth Bucholz has been their on the journey with them. FlipStar is a kid first gym and these four athletes are proof of that. The four have reached this point in different ways but one common theme surrounds the group and that is hard work, determination and family made the journey possible. Let’s learn more about Mackenzie, Natalie, JJ and Graci and how coach Beth has kept this ship sailing.

Coaches Wired: Cassie Whitcomb Sheets, Cincinnati | That’s What You are Capable Of

Final episode of the Coaches Wired of the season features long time Region 5er Cassie (Whitcomb) Sheets. This one was saved for last for several but this was the final time Cassie would coach in Region 5 as she moved to Colorado…. Well at least for now! This is a great example of the coach athlete connection. Cassie and her athlete Olivia Coppola are on the same page from start to finish. Cassie does a great job of giving ownership to Olivia and figuring out what she needs to fix or what went well. The cues and technical corrections are short and specific but Olivia is dialed in and ready to attack this floor routine. Check out Cassie and Olivia as they take command of the floor.
