In this episode we look at one of the most important aspects of sport performance and participation…. Motivation. We talk about strategies to help set up a culture in your gym to drive and sustain motivation through the training year. There are many different motivational strategies and each athlete is motivated differently. We discuss many different ways to enhance motivation and make the daily grind of training and competition fun. Creating a culture of excellence in your gym and develop a plan for keeping the energy and excitement toward your goals both individual and team helps to keep motivation high. Whitney Snowden former Head Optional Coach at Cincinnati Gymnastics joins us to give her perspective on motivation and what has worked well for her in the past.

20 Questions with Eastern National Qualifier Hannah Scheible (All American Flames)

Our next Level 9 20 Questions athlete is an Eastern National Qualifier from All-American Flames in Port Huron, Michigan. Hannah Scheible grew up in the gym, owned by her parents, gymnastics was absolutely in her blood. Hannah who will enter into her first year as a Level 10 athlete this season has had great success thus far qualifying to the Level 9 Eastern National Championships. I am really excited for Hannah to be a Level 10 this season, I have watched this talented young athlete grew up into a beautiful gymnast, she is strong, powerful and graceful all at the same time. For me Hannah is definitely going to be one to watch especially on Vault and Bars this season. Let’s get to know Hannah a little bit better as she embarks on her first Level 10 season and heads down the path towards the 2019 JO National Championships.

How did you get into gymnastics? How old were you? My parents put me in a gymnastics class when I was 2.

What is your favorite event? My favorite event is vault.

What is your favorite skill to Train/Compete? My favorite skill to train/compete is full-in dismount off bars.

What is your dream skill? My dream skill is a Full twisting double layout on floor is my dream skill because it seems impossible.

What is your favorite part of gymnastics? My favorite part of gymnastics is having fun and accomplishing goals is my favorite part of gymnastics.

What is your favorite meet to compete at? Why? My favorite meet is the Wildfire Challenge because the awards ceremony is fun and exciting.

What is your biggest accomplishment in gymnastics so far? Qualifying for Eastern Nationals is my biggest accomplishment in gymnastics, so far.

Who do you admire the most in the sport of gymnastics? Why? I admire Alyssa Keller, because she has set a great example in the gym and pushes through things that are hard for her.

What is your favorite Region 5 Insider Feature or Series? My favorite Region 5 Insider Feature or Series is The Region 5 All Access, because you can see what other drills coaches do for different skills.

What is your go to song or playlist before meets? I don’t have a go-to playlist before meets, but my favorite song is Get Back Up by Toby Mac.

What are 3 things you could not live without? The three things I could not live without are my parents, my teammates, and my cats.

If you could be an animal, what animal would you be and why? I would be an owl because they have night vision and they have 360 degree neck rotation.

What are 5 Must have items in your gym bag? The 5 must have items in my gym bag are: Essential Oils, Grips, Hair Spray, Onald, the rubber unicorn duck, Food and Water.

Do you have any rituals or superstitions before competitions? I have a good dinner and breakfast before meets.

What do you like to do outside of gymnastics? When I am not in the gym, I like draw, read, and take an occasional nap.

What is your most embarrassing gymnastics or meet moment? My most embarrassing moment in gymnastics was when I got a zero on vault, even though I competed.

If you were not a gymnast what sport would you try? If I was not a gymnast, I would probably try track and field.

Who do you admire the most (any sport) and why? Any athlete that makes it to the Olympic Games is to be admired.

What is your most memorable gymnastics moment? My most memorable gymnastics moment was when I successfully competed my full-in dismount off bars at Level 9 Eastern Nationals.

What is the most valuable advice or words of wisdom your coach has given you?  The most valuable piece of advice my coach has ever given me is: Enjoy the Journey. Even in life’s not-so-good moments you are exactly where you are supposed to be.

Bonus Question: Tell me something interesting about yourself……I have a twin brother and I am homeschooled.
