The 2023 NCGA Championships (Division 3 Nationals) took place at Winona State this past weekend. Region 5 was well represented at these championships.
The University of Wisconsin OshKosh won their 2nd consecutive national title over Wisconsin Lacrosse by two tenths of a point with Wisconsin Stout finishing 3rd. OshKosh had five R5 Alums contribute to their national championship efforts with 9.7+ efforts from sophomore Mia Lucero (video below), sophomore Delaney Cienkus (video below) and freshman Mady Bellmore (Beam) as well as a very nice bar set from sophomore Sam Zeilinger (bars-9.425)
Wisconsin Lacrosse senior Kerrie Legault (video below) posted a 9.625 on bars while senior Alex Wood contributed two counting scores on vault (9.575) and floor (9.65) respectfully. Junior Claudia Walter posted a counting 9.475 on bars while senior Cate Sandvik competed in the all around for the Eagles.
Five Region 5 Alums finished in the top 10 individually with one claiming a national event title. Sophomore Kara Welsh from White Water, who finished 3rd on vault in 2022, won the 2023 national title with a very impressive Yurchenko full.
Check out Kara’s vault and the four other top 10 event finishes for our alums at the NCGA Nationals below. For more check out the R5Alum gallery, link above.
