Region 5 qualified 8 gymnasts to the Nastia Cup this season and all but 1 are first time qualifiers. Makarri Doggette of Buckeye Gymnastics will compete in her impressive 3rd Nastia Cup. Region 5 is sending an awesome group of talent gymnasts to the to the cup this year and we caught up with each to find out what they are excited about and looking forward to tonight competition.
Gracen Standley had this to say about competing at Nastia:
” I am very excited to be able to experience the Nastia Cup this weekend. I’m most excited about competing on podium for the first time and meeting all the other competitors”
* Shea Mahoney of Legacy Elite was an original qualifier but unfortunately was injured and was replaced by her teammate Abbey Nkansah.

2015 Region 5 Horizon Award winner Kami Gotcheva of Michigan Academy is wired as she coaches her level 10 athletes on beam during the warm-up and competition at the 2016 IGI Chicago Style. This weeks Senior Saturday features Aerial Gymnastics Level 10 Hunter Vincent. Hunter was the 2015 Region 5 SRA All Around Champion and a JO National Qualifier. She will be heading to Texas Womens University in the fall.
The Wolverine Classic, hosted by Gym America in Saline Michigan, is one of the longest running Invitationals in the state of Michigan. The Wolverine Classic has always been one of my favorite meets to attend, the first time I competed in the WC was in 1996 when it was held at the University of Michigan, ever since then I have always made it a point to attend this meet in one way or another.
This year the Level 9/10 session was filled with many talented athletes and many entertaining routines. The level of creativity was very high at this meet and it was very refreshing to see such entertaining, creative and original routines on all pieces of apparatus.
The Teams that competed at the 2016 Wolverine Classic included: Gym America, Twistars USA, Bay Valley Academy, Phoenix GEMS, Farmington, Grand Rapids Gymnastics, Great Lakes Elite and Gym Dreams.
