20 Questions with 2017 JO National Qualifier Lauren Banister (Champion KY)

Our next 20 Questions athlete is Lauren Banister a level 10 from Champion in Kentucky. Lauren, who is in her sophomore year of high school, shows great power in the vault and floor exercise, as well as high flying releases on the uneven bars. Lauren will definitely be a “one to watch” this year.  Let’s get to know Lauren a little bit better as she looks to post season and another birth on the Region 5 Dream Team heading to JO Nationals in Cincinnati, Ohio.




How did you get into gymnastics? How old were you? I started gymnastics when I was 2 years old and went to Mommy and Me classes at our local gym.

What is your favorite event? My favorite event is Floor.

Favorite Skill to train/compete? My favorite skill to train is my Hindorff on Bars.

Dream Skill? My dream skill is a Shaposh uprise Hindorff.

What is your favorite part of gymnastics? My favorite part of gymnastics is that it’s not just a sport but it teaches you so many life skills to help you in the future. And gymnasts can do things not everyone else can do!!

What college do you plan on attending? I’m currently still looking for the right college to attend!

What is our favorite meet to compete at? Why? My favorite meet to compete at is Derby Classic, the meet Champion hosts. The energy level is great and when we compete on floor so many people come to watch us and a cheer as loud as they can!!

Biggest accomplishment in gymnastics so far? My biggest accomplishment so far in gymnastics is qualifying to JO Nationals!

Who do you most admire in the sport of gymnastics? The people I admire in gymnastics are my teammates because we are always there for each other and we help push each other to be the best we can be.

What is your favorite Region 5 Insider Feature or Series? My favorite Region 5 Insider feature is Coaches Wired or Best in 60 Seconds.

What is your go to playlist or song before meets? My go to song before a meet is anything by Ed Sheeran. Especially his collaboration song with Eminem, River.

3 Things you could not live without? Three things I could not live without are my family because they help me through obstacles in life, my teammates because they are my best friends, and my phone because I’m always watching Netflix especially Grey’s Anatomy.

If you could be any animal, what animal would you be and why? If I could be an animal I would be a monkey cause they swing around and basically do flips when they want to.

5 Most Important or Must Have items in your gym bag? My must have items in my bag are Grips, Tiger Paws, Tape, Joshua Tree, and a snack. 🙂

Do you have any pre-meet rituals or superstitions? My pre-meet ritual is that ever since I was little I would always eat a Snickers bar and I still do today 🙂




What do you like to do outside of Gymnastics? Outside of gymnastics I like to hang out with my friends, go shopping, and watch a good show on Netflix.

Most embarrassing meet moment or gymnastics moment? My most embarrassing moment was when I was a camp and we were playing around the world on beam working jumps. I was the last one to go so I had to make it perfect to end the game. On my turn and I split the beam right in front of everyone there and we had to start over. The worst part they have it on video!

If you weren’t a gymnast, what sport would you do or try?  If I wasn’t a gymnast I would be playing soccer.

Which athletes (any sport) do you respect the most and why?I respect figure skaters the most because they have to be so graceful and elegant and try not to slip and fall on the ice.

What is the most valuable piece of advice or wisdom your coach has given you? The most valuable piece of advice I have gotten from my coach is to never forget who you are and what you have accomplished because there are so many more things you still have to do.

Bonus Question: Tell me something interesting about yourself…….Something that’s interesting about me is that I like to bake anything from cheesecakes to macaroons!! 🙂

Our Senior Saturday features DeVeaus level 10 and 2017 JO National Qualifier Camryn Klein. Cami takes pride in the opportunity to be a leader and help guide her teammates. She is looking forward to the next chapter in her career as she will head to Kent State in the fall.

 

 

2018 Athlete Warrior Challenge

This past weekend while one half of the Region 5 Insider attended the Circle of Stars meet in Indy, the other half attended the Athlete Warrior Challenge host by Olympia Gymnastics Academy in Michigan. The Saturday evening session was a dual between Perfection Gymnastics (Ohio) and the host club Olympia Gymnastics. Other teams present in the session 9/10 session were All American Flames, Stars & Stripes, Midland Gymnastics, Extreme Gymnastics, and Heartland Gymnastics.

20 Questions with CGA Junior Elite Lillian Lippeatt

Junior Elite Lillian Lippeatt of Cincinnati Gymnastics Academy, may be small but she is certainly mighty! Lillian, who decided to concentrate on elite gymnastics last year, has had a pretty successful gymnastics career so far qualifying to the JO National Championships in 2016, the Nastia Liukin Cup and the P&G Championships in 2017 and being named to the 2017 Region 5 Elite Ambassador team that recently traveled to Trinidad & Tobago. Lillian Lippeatt is a talent young athlete who is just getting started on her journey in the world of elite gymnastics, I cannot wait to see what the future holds for her and her talents. Let’s get to know Lillian a little better as she prepares for the elite season.





How did you get into gymnastics? How old were you?  When I was 2.5, my mom put me in gymnastics because I used to climb on the counters and tables.

What is your favorite event? My favorite event depends on the day, but most of the time it is beam.

Favorite Skill to train/compete? I love to train my two foot layout on beam, and I’m so excited to compete it this year for the first time.

Dream Skill? My dream skill is a double double on floor, I think it is so cool and has such a wow factor.

What is your favorite part of gymnastics? I love the adrenaline rush and thrill of showing off your skills in a meet, the feeling of when you nail a routine that you worked so hard on.

What college do you plan on attending? I’m not sure yet where I want to go to college, but it’s going to be somewhere with great gymnastics and opportunities in academics.

What is your favorite meet to compete at? Why? I loved competing at P&G Championships because of how many people were there watching as well as all the amazing girls I shared it with.

Biggest accomplishment in gymnastics so far? Qualifying to the 2017 P&G Championships

Who do you most admire in the sport of gymnastics?  I admire Amelia Hundley the most in gymnastics, because training next to her, I was able to see her work so hard and persevere through any injury or rough patch with the brightest smile on her face.

What is your favorite Region 5 Insider Feature or Series? My favorite Region 5 Insider series is actually one of the most recent ones, on the 25 days of sticks for the 25 days of Christmas. I love to see the reaction on their faces when they stick it cold.

What is your go to playlist or song before meets? I listen to whatever is on the radio before meets, if its something that pumps me up and gets me excited for the day, I love to listen to it!

3 Things you could not live without? I could not live without my gloves because my hands are always so cold, Graeter’s ice cream (salted caramel chip), and superhero movies/TV shows.

If you could be any animal, what animal would you be and why? I would be a lion, because I could be the King (technically Queen) of the jungle, and explore the wilderness.

5 Most Important or Must have Items in your gym bag? The 5 most important items in my gym bag are grips, tape, joshua tree, tiger paws, and deodorant.

Do you have any pre-meet rituals or superstitions? I aways come a little early to visualize my routines on each event, and pray with my mom.

What do you like to do outside of Gymnastics? Bake, craft, and lay by the pool.

Most embarrassing meet moment or gymnastics moment? At my level 5 mock meet at our gym, I took my warm up off and had my leo on backwards, and nobody realized until right before we were ready to warm up.

If you weren’t a gymnast, what sport would you do or try? I would try to be a track and field athlete, mainly try sprinting and the team relays.

Which athletes (any sport) do you respect the most and why? I respect the triathletes because they prepare for three long, hard events all at the same time, which takes valuable time and effort.




What is the most valuable piece of advice or wisdom your coach has given you? Everything you do in life is a choice, and your thoughts determine your actions. If you make a choice to think positive thoughts, you will get positive results, which produces positive success.

 

Bonus Question:   Tell me something interesting about yourself…. I love to refinish furniture, and I absolutely hate everything about peanut butter.
