Since then I have kept an eye out for Kaitlyn, she came to the 2018 Region 5 High Tech Camp with a brand new vault that is exceptionally powerful definitely one to watch again this year. Kaitlyn, who is a Junior in High School, is looking to make an impact this season and earn herself another trip to the JO Nationals. Lets get to know Kaitlyn a little bit better as she heads into the new year with upgraded skills and a hunger to accomplish the goals she has set for herself.

I hope to have the opportunity to compete gymnastics at the collegiate level.  I have made some visits but have not decided on a University or an area of study at this point.  I am a 4.0 GPA student and academics, as well as athletics, will factor into my final decision.

What is your favorite meet to compete at? Why? Competing at Eastern Nationals in Virginia Beach was an amazing experience as was being on the floor with my Level 10 Dream Team teammates at JO Nationals.  Another great meet experience was the CGA Coaches Spectacular All-Star Showdown where I competed bars.

How did you get into gymnastics? How old were you?  I got into gymnastics when I was two years old. I was always a very active kid, and I would swing around on the furniture and had a ton of energy. My mom signed me up for a mom and tot gymnastics class at BGGC, and I loved it and continued ever since.

What is your favorite event?  My favorite event is vault. I love vault because it takes so much power to do, and I love the feeling of being in the air after you block off the table. I like how much strength it entails along with the grace it takes to execute a nice vault.

Favorite Skill to train/compete? My favorite skill to train and compete right now is a front toss on beam. It is a new skill for me this year and I like being in the air and then having a solid landing to finish it off.

What college do you plan on attending? Why? I plan on attending Northern Illinois University. I plan on going there because the people, coaches, and gymnasts there are amazing. The atmosphere is so positive and encouraging in their gym. There is an amazing sense of community at Northern Illinois that I am very excited to be a part of too. I also want to be close to home.

What is your favorite meet to compete at? Why? I love to compete at Hawaiian Pineapple Classic because it is my home meet, and its really fun to see my friends and family there. Also, a lot of my old teammates who have graduated come back, and it is always fun to see them. I also love competing at Nationals because it is so fun to be a part of Region 5. I love cheering for everyone and being able to be a part of the excitement while competing.

Biggest accomplishment in gymnastics so far? My biggest accomplishment in gymnastics so far is making JO Nationals in 2018 and placing 6th on beam and 8th on vault! Going to Nationals was such an amazing experience and I had the best time.
