Kylie Smith Interview after Day 1
The women’s competition at the 2025 Xfinity US Championships kicked off with day 1 of the junior competition at the Smoothie King Center in downtown New Orleans. The junior session had only 19 competitors so there was an open event during each rotation making it a bit easier to follow all the action.
Region 5 had two juniors competing in the competition both from Cincinnati Gymnastics. Kylie Smith finished 4th all around with a 51.5. She began on bars with a bit of a rough around the edges routine catching her Jaeger in a bit close and over on a few pirouettes but came back strong on beam. She nailed her series and very strong double back dismount finishing 4th after day 1 12.95. Her back half of the meet was very strong with 13 plus scores on both floor and vault. Her full in and very nice presentation helped her to a 13.15 and tied for 3rd after day 1. She closed the competition with a very nice Yurchenko 1/1 and a 13.2.

Kylie is one and done in her first championships as she will be headed home tomorrow to get ready to head to Paraguay for the Junior Pan American Games on Thursday.
” Hitting under pressure made really confident and it’s making me feel good for next week in Paraguay”

Elaina Sliney, Cincinnati also in her first US Championships struggled with her Maloney 1/2 peeling off the bar at the bottom but bounced back on beam with a solid routine on beam. Her two back handsprings to layout step out series was very nice and executed her double full dismount very nicely which she downgraded for more consistency. Though she had some landing issues on a few passes, her 1 1/2 thru to 2 1/2 twist was very well performed. Her eye contact and extension during her floor is something that does stand out when you watch Elaina.
