Last weekend, Illinois was the first Level 10 state to take place and the gymnastics was some of the best I have seen all season, which is a good sign leading into Regionals. We have been posting the state champions on each event this past week and have a few more to post but as with every meet there are more routines that are a must see, many of which would have won in another age groups.
As we head into regionals, these routines are a must watch. SO HEY Press PLAY on these 10 +1 routines from Illinois State.
Kaitlyn Schwab, Aspire 9.675
Kaitlyn is on the upward trend heading to regionals and bars is one of her best events. 3x national qualifier, she brings that experience with her that will be very valuable to Region 5.
Sophia Caliendo, Signature 9.6
Sophia may fly under the radar but is an athlete that I have watched grow over the last few years. She is looking to qualify to her first Level 10 Nationals and this vault will be an asset to that goal.
Bridget Karl, BIG 9.4
Bridget is a strong beam worker and has found success all season long on the event. She was an alternate for Region 5 at last years nationals and that experience could prove to be an asset this go around.
Aliyah Kelly, UGA 9.5
Aliyah is a strong all around gymnast, one NIU will use a lot next year. She opens her floor with a very nice full in and nails her double back combo with confidence. She may be NCAA ready but we have her for one more go at DEV Nationals.
Jillian Luff, GymNasti 9.475
Jillian has been very consistent on bars all season long. This will be a standout routine in the younger junior age groups at regionals for sure. However, Jill, you got a few years to work on your STICK AND STAY for college…. HA HA!
Peyton Pech, Aspire 9.7
Peyton has a very nice Yurchenko full that is always amongst the best in the competition. However, we might get to see an upgraded vault at regionals with the Yurchenko 1 1/2.
Mckenna Mauk, Aspire 9.4
Mckenna who heads into her first Region 5 Level 10 Championships, works beam with confidence and keeps the rhythm and flow of the routine moving. The switch leap switch leap series is a difficult one, but Mckenna does it well.
Julia Rausa, Libertyville 9.45
Julia is a very solid all arounder with strong difficulty on all four events along with nice artistry on floor. However, her bars and the beautiful Ray is a highlight and routine that is fun to watch.
Kristen Swiebocki, BIG 9.45
Kristin is a beam specialist (IES) heading into regionals but its not a routine to count out. Her kick over front is one of the most aggressive out there and her over all performance is one I enjoy watching when given the chance.
Libby Tobias, Aspire 9.55
Libby performs the full on tuck off vault , which can be very complex in terms of all phases of the vault. Libby has been doing this vault for a few years now and it continues to get better with more repulsion and lift off the table.
+1- Anni Chudy, Ultimate 9.4
Anni will be competing in her final Region 5 Championships in a few weeks and I have major respect for her balancing Level 10 with her commitment to high school gymnastics these last four years. Anni is a good all around gymnast but its her SIDE SOMI for me!
