This episode of Eye on 5 features 2015 JO National Qualifier Leah Clapper from Gym America. Leah talks about her JO Nationals experience and her elite ambitions. Leah gives us some insights to some of the skills she has been working on for 2016.
This past week some of Region 5s best gathered in Diamondale, Michigan for the 2016 Twistars Invitational. As usual this meet drew a great level 10 session featuring some of Region 5s top teams. The energy Saturday night was electrifying!! Between Oakland Gymnastics and the home team Twistars USA it sounded like a football game. What I like most about the Level 10 sessions is the energy that not only the gymnasts and coaches bring to the floor, but the audience as well.
The Level 10 session of the meet was designated as a qualifier for the 2016 Nastia Liukin Cup, to be held in March in conjunction with the American Cup, the junior (15 and under) with the highest All-Around score earned a spot to one of the most prestigious Junior Olympic Competitions in the country (other than JO Nationals). The Nastia Liukin Cup is a great showcase for up and coming gymnastics talent. Many Region 5 athletes have participated in the Nastia Liukin Cup! The winner of the inaugural meet was Lexi Priessman from CGA in Ohio followed by Grace Williams from Twistars USA.
This year was no exception, throughout the country 3 Region 5 Gymnasts qualified for the 2016 Cup at various meet sites. The Junior qualifier from this meet was MAG’s Gabby Wilson! Gabby qualified with an All-Around score of a 38.400, which was also the highest All-Around score of the entire meet. On be half of Region 5 and Michigan Gymnastics we would like to congratulate Gabby Wilson on earning her spot at the 2016 Nastia Liukin Cup!
