Region 5 wins the 2017 Eastern Nationals, 4 More Individual Champs on Day 3

The 2017 Level 9 Eastern National Championships is wrapped up its final day in Dimondale  yesterday. The last 4 Senior Age Groups took the floor early this morning to close out the event and for some to close out their gymnastics careers with Region 5 & their personal gyms. In 2017, we crowned 8 All-Around Champions, 9 Vault Champions, 3 Uneven Bar Champions, 3 Balance Beam Champions & 7 Floor Champions. Along with Top 3 finishes on Vault (11), Uneven Bars (15), Balance Beam (10), Floor (11) & All-Around (11). In the Super Team Category, Region 5 won their 3rd straight Super Team Title accumulating 55 out of the possible 64 points! Region 5 placed first in 11 of the 16 age group to capture the title!

The 2017 Level 9 Eastern National Championships proved to be a very rewarding and fulfilling endeavor for Region 5!  Here is a recap of Day 3 from Easterns.

In the Senior 5 age group, Lauren Puscheck of Phenom  tied for 2nd place AA (36.950), Reagan Gnewuch from Huntley was solid on beam for 2nd place (9.225)  and Audriana Hammond of Water’s Edge tumbled her way to the 2017 National Title on floor with her 9.5.

In Senior 6,  McKenzie McClarney of  Wrights Gymnastics was collegiate gymnastics step away from the national title with her 37.400 AA only .25 out of first. Caroline Austin of Oakland Gymnastics dismounted the competition and landed  in the top 5 tying for 4th (37.200),  CGA’s Adrienne Nguyen-Storer placed 7th (37.125) and rounding out the top 10 was Alisha Riles of Buffalo Grove Gymnastics (36.650). McClarney, also picked up a few individual medals placing 2nd on the vault (9.575) & 3rd (9.425) on the floor while Adrienne Nguyen-Storer picked up a 3rd place podium spot swinging her way to a 9.525 on bars.

**Senior 6 took 1st place as a team (149.525)**



Senior 7 placed 5 athletes in the top 10 as Madison Roehrs from SIGS took 4th with a 37.125, Kendra Linway of Gym World took 5th (36.825) while Michigan girls Sydney Schocker [Extreme] & Jenna Nuler [Splitz] tied for 6th overall (36.625) and Ashley Willicut of Cincinnati Gymnastics took 9th (36.525). There were two individual national titles for Region 5 in this age group and they were both by Roehrs, winning the bars (9.65) and floor (9.525). Few more of our gymnasts broke into the top 3 as  Jenna Nuler & Ashley Willicut tied for 2nd place on bars with a 9.525, and Willicut took 2nd on floor.  Infinity’s Brielle Hampton landed in 2nd on the vault 9.575.

**Senior 7 took 1st place as a team (148.525)**

The Senior 8’s closed out the successful weekend for Region 5  with our 8th All-Around National Champion of the championships as Wrights Gymnastics Olivia Kavanaugh finished the day in the top spot with a 36.975. Grand Rapids Sabrina Bowen took 7th place with a 36.325. Two Senior 8s also garnered two individual podium spots with Kavanaugh placing 2nd on floor 9.425  & Alyssa Petko of Crystal Lake tied for  2nd 0n beam with a 9.075.
