20 Questions with Graduating Senior Olivia Green (St. Charles)
We have so many 2020 graduating seniors here in Region 5! Just like the rest of the country many of these young student-athletes have missed out on so many end of High School memories! However it has been awesome to see some High Schools holding virtual graduations, outside graduations and even social distancing graduations at the school! Here at the Region 5 Insider we have been trying hard to also recognize our incredible seniors the best way we can through our social media outlets.
Our next 2020 Graduating Senior is Olivia Green of St. Charles Gymnastics in Illinois. Olivia, who’s mother competed for Western Michigan, qualified to the 2019 Level 9 Eastern National Championships for the first time! Olivia was part of the Senior 7 age group that placed 2nd as a team! Olivia is a powerful athlete with great presentation! It was a joy to watch her compete, she always looked so happy on the competition floor and was an incredible teammate and cheerleader for the girls at Easterns! In the fall Olivia will be heading to the University of Kentucky! Let’s get to know Olivia a little better as she hangs up her leotards, packs up her cowboy hat and gets ready to become a wildcat this fall!
How did you get into gymnastics? How old were you? I started gymnastics because my mother was a gymnast at Western Michigan University and Ive always admired the sport. I started doing gymnastics when I was about 2 years old
What is your favorite event? Why? My favorite event would be bars because I love how much of a challenge it can be and there is always something new and fun to try.
Favorite Skill to train/compete? Why? My favorite skill would be an aerial on beam.
Dream Skill? My dream skill is a Shaposh on Bars
What is your favorite part of gymnastics? I love being able to compete because I always feel like I am able to challenge myself every time.
What college do you plan on attending? Why? I will be attending the University of Kentucky, I absolutely adore the atmosphere the campus provides and they have amazing sports and a beautiful downtown.
What is your favorite meet to compete at? Why? My favorite meet to compete at is any of the away meets that we go to because it is always warm and so fun to be away with my teammates
Biggest accomplishment in gymnastics so far? My biggest accomplishment is competing level 10 this year
3 Things you could not live without? 3 Things I could not live without would be my phone, friends and music
If you could have 1 superpower what would it be? If I could have 1 super power it would be the ability to fly
Discuss not being able to finish your senior season like you had hoped. Probably one of the worst things, I’ve always looked forward to this part of my life for many years but I always think that the best is yet to come
What are you doing to keep up your training during Corona Quarantine? I workout every day, always trying to do something new
What do you miss most about gymnastics during this time? I miss seeing my teammates and laughing with them.
What will you miss most about being part of Region 5? I’ll miss the feeling of a bunch of people coming together as one
Most embarrassing meet moment or gymnastics moment? One of my most embarrassing moment would be completely messing up one of my passes and missed a whole skill in a floor routine
Something you learned from Gymnastics that you will take with you? One of my biggest takeaways from this sport is that you can not compare yourself to others, everyone is on their own path and you are on yours and you just need to be proud of your own goals and accomplishments
Most Memorable Gymnastics or Nationals Moment? My favorite moment was qualifying to level 9 eastern nationals.
What is the most valuable piece of advice or wisdom your coach has given you? One of the biggest pieces of advice is that you always have to treat practice like it’s a meet to be successful
How do you want to be remembered, but us here in Region 5 as well as your home club & teammates? I want to be remembered as being a fun, loving and supportive teammate
What is something special your friends, family, school, coaches or teammates, have done for you during this quarantine to make missing out on those special senior moments a little easier to handle. Our coaches have been constantly doing zoom workouts to keep everyone involved and trying to make things feel normal
Bonus Question:Tell me something interesting about yourself…. I have traveled to the Czech Republic in Europe.
